There are more than 300 species of termites native to Australia. Many varieties are capable of causing commercial damage however it is primarily less than 20 subterranean species that are a serious threat.

On the Sunshine Coast, we tend to see three main species in and around homes. Termites belong to the insect order Isoptera, meaning equal wings. Only alates (reproductives) develop wings for flight to establish new colonies.
